Grange Resources is Australia’s most experienced magnetite producer from its iron ore mining and pellet production business located in North-West Tasmania.

The Savage River magnetite iron ore mine is a technically challenging long-life mining asset where ore is mined and processed before it is transported by pipeline to the pellet plant and ship loading facility at Port Latta.

A unique opportunity has become available for a Specialist Drill and Blast Engineer to join our Technical team.

The Professional Opportunity:

This position offers an opportunity to develop your career while making a significant contribution to the company’s strategy. This role is principally responsible for operational Drill & Blast activities at our Open pit mine site, with scope for a unique variety of development and improvement projects. This includes working with and continuing to develop our innovative remote drilling and explosive loading technology.

In this position, key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Oversee delivery of suitably fragmented scheduled inventory of material for Open Pit operations.
  • Grow and lead the D&B team providing industry best practice D&B internal consulting services to the Grange Business for operational and growth projects including potential U/G.
  • Refine and implement improved Standards and Procedures, for Drill and Blast activities under your control, including operational drilling and shotfiring.

We anticipate that your Drill & Blast Engineering experience and qualifications will include:

  • Bachelor degree in Mining Engineering or relevant experience
  • 5 years’ experience in an open pit mining environment, hard rock experience would be desirable but not essential.
  • A self-motivated person who enjoys leading, working with and developing an agile and focussed team.
  • Experience with Electronic detonators, Pre-splitting, Trim and Wall control Blasting would be well regarded.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication to establish and maintain effective communication channels.
  • You will be a strong team player with the ability to work in a diverse team to achieve planned outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and manage multiple stakeholders

The successful applicant must be able to obtain a Tasmanian Security Sensitive Dangerous Substances clearance.
